Spirit of Adventure

Growing up, I was simultaneously terrified of, and obsessed with, what mysteries lurked beyond the depths of a subway tunnel. Just around the bend, hidden from view could have been an army of mutant alligators, or a crew of bandits using the tunnels as a risky hideaway for their ill-gotten loot. The possibilities were limitless.

This particular shade of orange always reminds me of the 1970s. Vintage shag carpets, couches, beanbag chairs, and bell bottom corduroys. I can remember seeing all of those things in this odd, burnt pumpkin but not quite orange.

Toronto may not have as extensive a subway network as London’s Underground or as sprawling as the NYC Metro, but that hasn’t stopped it from adding character to every station. Spadina’s artwork features Subway and Street car pictographs as it’s one of the major transfer hubs for the TTC.

As housing prices skyrocket in Toronto it has become a city of commuters with more and more people living outside of the city and coming into it for work. Even outside of rush hour the subway is full of the hustle and bustle of people going about their daily lives.
