Jane Jacobs was a famous urban planner who spent the later part of her life in Toronto. Jacobs was a huge advocate for things like small blocks, lots of sidewalks, and perhaps most importantly, places for people to connect as neighbours. Whenever I see an empty bench I often wonder if Jacobs would approve of its location.
